  • The Modular Solution to the Promise of Additive

Explore one of the final frontiers of sound creation: Additive Synthesis. Loom makes it possible. While familiar to many, the promise of additive synthesis has gone largely unanswered. The creation of rich, swirling, and evocative sounds by combining individual harmonics has proved either too time consuming for programmers, or too calculation-intensive for all but the fastest supercomputers; until now. Loom takes an exclusive modular approach to creating the captivating sounds and unique harmonic signatures that are the trademarks of additive synthesis. The easy-to-use Loom architecture allows anyone to quickly combine any of 30 editable modules into 10 available cells to realize incredible, unheard of sounds. Onboard effects, onscreen pop-up Tool Tips, and the amazing Morph page bring Loom to life for fantastic, accessible sound.

    Sound Celebration

Loom is absolutely packed with sounds. Acclaimed sound designers Richard Devine and Mark Ovenden have created over 350 professional, ready-to-play sounds for your convenience. You can tweak, analyze, and customize their sounds to make them your own, use them as-is, or dig deep and begin creating your own astounding additive sounds from scratch. Experimentation is easy. Intelligent Randomization can instantly offer up new parameters—or a new mix of modules—to jump-start your sound design sessions. All parameters can be mapped for MIDI control. Loom allows up to 512 harmonic partials to be used in creating a single additive patch!

    Mix & Match Modules

Loom uses an efficient and effective modular design to create complex sounds quickly and easily. Each of the 30 editable Loom modules performs a specific sonic task—Octaver, Second Tone, Moving Filter, Noise, Linear Lowpass, Modulator, etc. The Loom framework provides a series of cells, where up to 10 of these modules can be interact and combine to create a complete additive synthesis patch. Each module includes task-specific editable parameters—as well as patch-wide modulation routings—for detailed, individual control. To make things even easier, each module includes a spectrum window, offering a visual indication of how that module is affecting the individual harmonics of the sound.

    More than Modules

There is more to a fantastic additive patch than just modules. To get things started, each Loom patch begins with editable Spectral Distortion and Spectral Modulation controls that influence the overall sound. Three LFOs provide tempo sync-able modulation sources that any module can access. Four velocity-sensitive Envelope Generators add an extra layer of control that can change and evolve over time. Octave control, global pitch, glide time, and other per-patch controls offer additional tools for your custom sound-shaping experience.

    Expressive Effects

Onboard editable effects add an extra dimension to you customized additive sound creations. Using the drive or distortion on an additive sound can produce an aggressive edge or introduce rich harmonic changes. Modulation effects include a chorus and a phaser. Each can add remarkable depth and motion to your sound. Loom also includes a reverb effect to help your sound sit in the mix, or to create a cavernous audio environment.

    Morph. Motion. Music.

This is where the Loom magic happens. Using the condensed set of control knobs at the top of the page, Loom allows you to quickly create up to four variations of your sound, and assign each one to different quadrant of the Morph Pad. Now the fun begins. Point, click, and drag anywhere on the Morph Pad to create a morph path. As the sound moves along this patch, you will here it morph in real time between your four variations. This morphing can be free form, or set to sync up to a particular musical unit—1 bar, 4 bars, etc. In fact, each segment of the morph path can be synced individually. This powerful visual addition launches Loom into uncharted territory; adding untold dimensions to your sonic soundscapes.
